Description of Memberships
To become a member of GAO, an individual must meet one or more of the following criteria:
1. be a volunteer at the Georgetown City Animal Shelter, or
2. be a volunteer with Georgetown Animal Outreach, or
3. be interested in animal welfare
GAO offers two levels of membership. A Voting Member is one who has paid a small annual membership fee ($10/individual and $15/family). A voting member can vote on business matters brought before the membership for approval, can be nominated for a seat on the Board of Directors, and as a Board member can hold office. The member must be at least 18-years old.
A Non-voting Member may be an individual, company or group that meets the qualifications for membership, but otherwise by their choice will be admitted as a non-voting member. Members of this class may not hold an elected or appointed office in the corporation. There is no age restriction for membership in this class, except that those under the age of eighteen must have parental or guardian consent to join, and must be in the company of an adult when participating in corporation activities. Many GAO members fall into this classification as non-voting members.
How to Become a Member
Anyone wishing to join GAO may contact a present member or member of the Board of Directors to obtain and complete a GAO Membership Application. A good way do this is to attend one of our general meetings the first Tuesday of each odd-numbered month at the Parks & Recreation Building near the Animal Shelter.. Meetings begin at 7:00PM. There is no membership application fee except for the optional Annual Dues if you wish to become a voting member.
